The Executive

President

Lauren Mitchell

Hi everyone, I'm Lauren and I'm your 2024 WAPSA President!

I'm incredibly excited to lead this year’s committee and feel very privileged to advocate for the interests of pharmacy students across all years at Curtin University.

My Curtin journey began in 2018 after I decided I wanted a change after a very long and varied retail management career. I'm now in my fourth and final year (woo!!) of pharmacy.

I'm a massive nerd and love all things Lego, Star Wars, video games, and comic book related. So when I don't have my head buried in uni work, I like to devote my free time to nerd life and spending time with friends and family.

Once upon a time, I worked for Nike, so I'm a bit of a sneakerhead as well. Pizza is my favourite food (no pineapple though!). I have started to learn the classical guitar and have so far reached a level where I can play a rousing rendition of Old McDonald Had a Farm.

I'm on campus a lot of time, so if you ever want to find me to say hello and have a chat about uni, Lego, Star Wars, pizza, or sneakers, I'll either be in the library, the WAPSA room, or at the nearest pizza dispensary.

Vice President

Jamie Wood

Hey everyone! My name is Jamie. I am very lucky to be your WAPSA Vice-President for 2024!

I started at Curtin in 2020 after taking a gap year, where I did an off-road trip all the way to Cape York (the most northern point of Australia, over in QLD)! I started off in the general health science degree, and after a year of doing the pre-requisites, I changed to Pharmacy! I'm in my fourth year this year (finally!) and can't wait to start my internship. I'm passionate about rural health, GI disorders, and psychedelic pharmacy.

As you can probably already tell I enjoy camping and recently did the Gibb River Road. Fun fact: on that trip, I very reluctantly swam through a river in a pitch black tunnel full of freshwater crocs! It's called Tunnel Creek for anyone who dares to give it a shot.

I enjoy hanging with my dog Lola and 'study sessions' (aka. fat chats) in the library with my uni friends. Like everyone else, you'll probably find me in the WAPSA room, in the library, or at the beach!

Please say hi if you see me around.

Secretary

Caspar Townsend

Hi, I’m Caspar, and I’m so excited to be WAPSA’s secretary for 2024!

I’m in charge of a lot of the behind-the-scenes organisational stuff, as well as the social media and publications!

A little bit about me: I’m currently the youngest person on the WAPSA committee. I’m in my fourth year of pharmacy, and I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to uni. I’m also currently trying to learn Italian on the side!

Outside of uni, I work at a gelato shop (as well as a pharmacy), and I like to think of myself as a bit of a gelato connoisseur. I love anything that involves me being in the air; from acrobatics, to trampolining, to rock climbing! Fun fact: I can do a no-handed cartwheel!

If you ever want to find me, the best places to look are the Curtin Library, the WAPSA room, or if we’re at any social event, the middle of the dance floor.

I’m always up for a chat (perhaps too much), so please come say hi!

Treasurer

Aaron Stockwell

Hello hello hello! I’m Aaron and I am the WAPSA treasurer for 2024!

I’m extremely excited to be working with an absolutely stacked WAPSA committee this year, and I know we’re going to make this a memorable year for everyone in the Curtin Pharmily. I am particularly focused on making sure our events are at a reasonable price for our students. I want all WAPSA members to be able to afford to come to our events, network with your future bosses, and be inspired to be the change that you want to see in pharmacy.

My university journey started at another university doing chemistry, but before I started my third year, I realised it wasn’t what I wanted to do. So a very wise friend (who had already graduated pharmacy at that point) told me to give Pharmacy at Curtin a try. So here I am now, in my fourth year and still loving it, and excited to see what future I can make for myself in pharmacy.

Like all the other executive committee members, I’m on campus a lot. I’m not a morning person, so I tend to get to uni in the late mornings but will normally stay until well after the sun has gone down! You’ll generally be able to find me in the library or in the WAPSA room.

When I’m not at uni (or work), I really enjoy winning at pub trivia (catch me at Varsity in Joondalup most Monday nights), watching musicals/going to the theatre (last year I saw the Rocky Horror Show, Mary Poppins, Chicago, and & Juliet!), and entertaining people with photos and videos of my cat (his name is Zac and he is a distinguished gentleman).

If you see me around, please come and say hello, even if it looks like I might be busy! I love any excuse to take a break from work!
